Safeguarding Policy
How we keep every child safe in our sessions.
Last updated: 24th October 2026
1. Our commitment to safeguarding
At Happy Kids Yoga the safety and wellbeing of children come first. We are committed to a safe, inclusive and supportive environment where every child can enjoy yoga and mindfulness with confidence.
2. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to everyone who works with children for Happy Kids Yoga: our head office team, franchisees, teachers, assistants and volunteers, in schools, nurseries, clubs and community classes.
It follows the government’s statutory guidance, Working Together to Safeguard Children and Keeping Children Safe in Education.
3. Our safeguarding principles
- The child comes first: we always act in the best interests of the child.
- Zero tolerance of abuse: we do not tolerate any form of harm, neglect or exploitation.
- Safe and trained teachers: everyone working with children is suitably qualified, safeguarding trained and holds an enhanced DBS check.
- Clear reporting: we take every concern seriously and follow clear procedures.
4. Safe recruitment and training
Everyone who works with children for Happy Kids Yoga has references checked and an enhanced DBS check with a barred list check before they start. They complete safeguarding training when they join and refresh it regularly, and they understand and follow this policy.
5. Code of conduct
Everyone working with children must:
- treat children with respect and fairness
- create a safe and positive environment
- keep appropriate professional boundaries, in person and online
- never make inappropriate physical contact or behave inappropriately
- only use touch to adjust a pose with the child’s agreement, and never where a child is uncomfortable
- avoid being alone with a child out of sight of others wherever possible
- never take photos or videos of children on personal devices, or share them without consent
- report any concern about a child’s welfare straight away, following section 6.
6. Reporting a concern
If a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
Any other concern should be reported the same day. During a session in a school, nursery or club, our teacher tells that setting’s own Designated Safeguarding Lead and follows the setting’s procedures, and also tells our Designated Safeguarding Lead:
Jen Hoe, Designated Safeguarding Lead
jen@happykidsyoga.co.uk
Parents, carers and children can raise a concern with their teacher or directly with Jen. Where needed, we refer concerns to the local authority children’s services or the police. Any allegation about someone working for Happy Kids Yoga is passed to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) for that area.
If you are worried about a child and would rather speak to someone outside Happy Kids Yoga, you can call the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000.
7. Records, confidentiality and data protection
We record concerns accurately and keep the records secure. Safeguarding information is handled confidentially in line with UK data protection law and is shared only with the people and agencies who need it to keep a child safe.
8. Policy review
This policy is reviewed every year, and sooner if the law or guidance changes. Next review: October 2027.
